Portland and Highway 101

Today we caught a cheap bus to Portland.  $28 for four tickets! The bus even had wifi and powerpoints. After dropping of our stuff we spent the afternoon exploring Portland.  Our first stop was Powell's Bookstore, were we spent a good chunk of time browsing their books.  Next was Voodoo Donuts.

I had a dirty old bastard and Dani had the Portland speciality donut. Mom had teased me last time for getting a boring donut so it was hilarious to see her get flustered by all the choices and end up getting a plain chocolate. After that we spent the afternoon browsing around the Portland shops

Day two was the start of our Pacific Coast Highway drive. Today we got up at 5 and caught the train out to the airport to pick up our car. Outside of Portland we got on Highway 101! As we were driving we noticed some unusual signs the most noticable was the 'Now Entering Tsunami Danger Area'. Our hotel in Florence even had a little card explaining what to do in the case of a tsunami.

The coast is beautiful and very distracting as you drive. However, there are a lot of places where you can stop and take photos just off the Highway.  Our first stop was the sea lion caves just outisde of Florence. The sign boasts that it is the largest sea lion cave in the world. We took an elevator down and watched the sea lions lounging about in the cave. We didn't stay long as it smelled down there.

After that we checked into our hotel and did a short hike up Sweet Creek falls and around the Oregon Sand Dunes.

Tomorrow we are off to Redwood National Park!
